Session 5 - Creating and copyrighting of music
Aim
To understand how revenue can be generated from creative ideas, and how that revenue is distributed.
Students will also learn about copyright, securing it, royalty collection and sampling.

Compiling creative portfolios.
Teachers' notes:
* Begin with a brief introduction for the whole class, to enable students to understand how creators earn a living. Explain that students should not only think about the most famous songwriters and artists, but also those from niche or non-mainstream genres.
* Students should be familiar with the universal copyright symbol ©
* Students should enter the details of their creative works on a Creative Portfolio worksheet.
Task 1 - Copywriting your own personal work

Work individually/in pairs/small groups, with each student making/adding to a list of any of your recent original creative work - e.g. art, written work, musical compositions, digital recordings (audio/audio-visual) - completed in or out of school, plus the date on which it was created.

Devise a small symbol to indicate your own copyright.
